Magazine advert Analysis - Part 2

Arctic Monkeys
This Advert is to promote the Arctic Monkeys upcoming tour and therefore the use of an image clearly from a previous tour helps to emphasise the purpose of the ad, to get people to attend the concerts. Showing fans enjoying the band performing would definitely get people interested in a at least checking out the artist and maybe go to the tour. The greyscale filter is also very effective as not only does it emphasise the band and their image thy are trying to present but it allows the background to fade naturally behind the main artist, who should be considered the focal point of the ad as he is the face of the band who are being advertised. Having the band’s name in a bold white font allows it to stand out against the greyscale background, this lets the viewer of the ad instantly realise who the tour is for and whether or not they would want to buy tickets for it. The white font also works for the names of the venues at the bottom allowing people to clearly see what locations the artist is playing at and make an easier decision of whether to attend the event.

Nirvana
This ad is to promote the 20th anniversary edition of a Nirvana album that came out in 1991, the ad uses the album cover as its image so that association between the two is very easy, furthermore the cover of Nevermind is one of the more controversial covers in mainstream music media in history so using it would be very effective in intriguing new fans and old due to how much it differs from album covers used today. It uses a big bold black font to set the release date apart from the other colours allowing interested customers to easily find details of its release. The blue colour scheme against the black font for the name of the band and album allows for easily drawing in potential customers as it stands out vibrantly. Also the interesting font used for the album, title can represent the more off the wall nature of the band, informing newer fans of this.
